What is the BMW 1 Series Sport?

As the name suggests, a used BMW 1 Series Sport comes with a more dynamic appearance, including modified bumpers and large alloy wheels.

Compared with more expensive versions of the 1 Series, the Sport models can have a more understated look, but they’re still packed with plenty of equipment.

There are lots of BMW 1 Series Sport for sale because it’s a trim level that’s been offered ever since the car was launched in 2004.

What are the BMW 1 Series Sport specs?

If you’ve got your eye on the latest third-generation F40 model, then you’ll only have one choice of petrol engine – it’s a 136hp 1.5-litre engine, called 118i.

There are also a handful of diesels to pick from – a 116hp 1.5-litre and a 2.0-litre unit with either 150hp or 190hp, badged 116d, 118d and 120d respectively.

Another popular pick from previous-generation models is the 184hp 120i, which uses a 2.0-litre petrol engine.

Because there have now been three generations of BMW 1 Series Sport, it’s important to check any individual listing because two decades have seen plenty of revisions to the model lineup.

For newer cars, Sport models come with a digital instrument cluster, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic air-conditioning, all-around parking sensors, cruise control and LED headlights.

Being a BMW, there are plenty of optional extras like heated seats, a heated steering wheel, a powered boot lid and a heads-up display.

Where the 1 Series Sport sits in the BMW range

Sport is a mid-spec variant of the BMW 1 Series – it comes with more standard equipment than the entry-level SE but for not a lot more money, especially when you’re buying used.

Top-spec M Sport cars are very popular because they come with more desirable styling, but they offer little more in terms of equipment.

There are also some performance models to pick from, including the 128ti and M135i xDrive from the third-generation car, and the M135i and M140i from the second-generation model, but these cost more to run.
