What is the BMW 1 Series 128ti?

The BMW 128ti marks the revival of the brand’s ‘ti’ designation, which stands for ‘Turismo Internazionale’ and has been used for marking out BMW’s sportier models since the BMW 1800ti of the 1960s.

It sits between the only petrol available in the third-generation range, a 136hp 1.5-litre engine badged 118i, and the seriously quick M135i xDrive model, and seemingly combines the best of both worlds.

As well as the power upgrade, a used BMW 128ti also comes with some fairly unique styling, including plenty of orange accents inside and out.

What are the BMW 1 Series 128ti specs?

The BMW 128ti is a standalone model, so it’s only available with a single engine. It’s a 265hp 2.0-litre petrol engine that comes as standard with a smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox.

It’s a front-wheel-drive model, but it has a limited-slip differential on the front axle and a specially tuned suspension to give it a very nimble feel. With all of this clever tech, it can do 0-62mph in a respectable 6.1 seconds.

Although the M135i xDrive has 306hp and a 0-62mph time of 4.8 seconds, the 128ti promises to be far more economical in real-world conditions and still packs a punch.

Used BMW 1 Series 128ti features and equipment

Most of the 128ti upgrades are there to make the car handle and look better. They include lowered M Sport suspension, a limited-slip diff, M Sport brakes and grippy tyres.

This model also gets dual black chrome tailpipes, lots of black styling in place of chrome to give it a more aggressive look, two-tone 18-inch alloys, and some red and orange styling details.

Equipment levels are based on the M Sport, which is the highest trim level you can get for the standard 1 Series, and newer models get an updated digital instrument cluster to sit alongside the touchscreen infotainment system.

Where the 1 Series 128ti sits in the BMW range

The BMW 1 Series range is very simple, because there are only three models to pick from. They include the entry-level SE, the mid-spec Sport, and the range-topping M Sport.

The 128ti is considered its own model, sitting above the M Sport. At the top of the range is the performance M135i xDrive model.
