What is the Audi A4 Technik?

Technik is an entry-level trim option available on a number of Audi’s more affordable models, designed to offer more than you’d get on some less premium rivals for a good price.

Despite being the cheapest version of the Audi A4, a Technik model still gives you access to many of the brand’s smooth and economical engines.

Technik was previously sold on the fourth-generation B8 model until around 2012, but the A4 Technik cars we have for sale belong to the fifth-generation B9 car – Technik was reintroduced when the car got a mid-life facelift in 2019.

What are the Audi A4 Technik specs?

When the A4 got an update in 2019, which included the launch of the Technik trim, it had some engine revisions, including some with mild hybrid technology to reduce emissions and improve efficiency.

There are two 2.0-litre diesels, with either 136hp or 163hp. They’re badged 30 TDI and 35 TDI, respectively.

You can also get a 150hp petrol engine, badged 35 TFSI, but unlike the 35 TFSI engine in the A3 which is a 1.5-litre unit, the A4 gets a larger 2.0-litre engine, with the same power output.

Proof that the A4 Technik is excellent value for money, the most basic version of this saloon comes with lots of car tech and features.

As standard, an A4 Technik comes with front and rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and heated seats.

There’s also a digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity like Apple CarPlay, plus a reversing camera.

Where the A4 Technik sits in the Audi range

Technik was added to the A4 range as part of an update in 2019, replacing SE as the entry-level model.

There are also mid-spec Sport cars and desirable S line trims to pick from, which come with even more equipment than the Technik.

For a while, Audi sold a very premium Vorsprung variant, and newer models get a mean-looking Black Edition option.

You can also pick sporty S4 models, which originally came with a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, but got a more economical V6 diesel in 2019.
