What is the Audi A4 SE?

SE is the name Audi gives to its entry-level models, but because the higher-spec versions generally offer style-focused upgrades, even the so-called 'basic' A4 SE is far from basic.

As with many of its other models, Audi stopped selling the SE version of the A4 when it received a mid-life update in 2019, so you’ll be looking at slightly older versions that are friendlier to your bank account.

This is still an incredibly good-value option, and its reasonably compact dimensions combined with the economical engines make it very affordable to run.

What are the Audi A4 SE specs?

The default option for an Audi A4 SE is a 150hp 1.4-litre petrol engine, but it has some clever fuel-saving technology, so it’s a good pick for anyone spending most of their time driving around town.

Long-distance drivers may prefer the 150hp 2.0-litre diesel model, which also has 150hp. Both cars also come with manual and automatic options.

Opt for certain models, such as some pre-2017 2.0-litre diesel models with a manual gearbox, and you could pay nothing in car tax. Regardless of your engine choice, your tax bill won’t be high anyway.

Used Audi A4 SE features and equipment

An Audi A4 SE lays a good foundation for the other high-spec trim levels, so you get things like three-zone climate control, cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and keyless start as standard.

You also get tech such as bright xenon headlights and large alloy wheels, plus automatic lights and wipers and plenty of standard-fit safety kit.

There’s also a range-topping Black Edition which looks even more aggressive, plus some performance models, depending on the model year – Audi has sold fast S4 and bonkers RS4 models over the years to prove it.
