What is the Audi A4 Black Edition?

A used Audi A4 Black Edition is an exceptionally stylish version of this compact saloon – it has even more style than the popular S line trim, but it still looks classy and fairly understated.

Large alloy wheels and black styling details come as standard, over and above the existing sporty bodykit that comes with the lower-spec S line car.

Black Edition became available as part of a mid-life update on the fourth-generation B8 Audi A4, and carried over into the fifth-generation B9 model, so there are plenty to choose from.

What are the Audi A4 Black Edition specs?

Despite its sporty looks, used Audi A4 Black Edition cars come with a selection of economical 2.0-litre engines.

The 150hp 35 TFSI and 204hp 40 TFSI petrol engines feel reasonably quick, but the 163hp 35 TDI and 204hp 40 TDI diesels are far more efficient on a long trip.

Older models came with different engines, including a 150hp 1.4-litre petrol, a more powerful 2.0-litre petrol with 252hp, and a few 3.0-litre V6 diesels.

The biggest difference between Black Edition and S line models is the styling, which includes the black styling back, 19-inch diamond-cut alloys, and dark chrome exhaust pipes.

The car also has LED headlights with automatic high beams, three-zone climate control, interior ambient lighting, all-round parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Like the rest of the range, a used A4 Black Edition for sale will also come with a large infotainment display that supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where the A4 Black Edition sits in the Audi range

Black Edition is the very top of the A4 lineup and it comes at a premium over S line models, but used versions offer far better value for money.

Beneath S line models are mid-spec Sport models, which come with almost the same levels of equipment as higher-spec models.

Previously, entry-level SE cars were available, while top-spec Vorsprung models make for an attractive alternative to Black Edition models depending on your budget.
