What is the Audi A4 Avant Black Edition?

A used A4 Avant Black Edition is a great example of a top-spec Audi – it builds on the brand’s highest trim levels by adding even more sporty style.

Because it’s an Avant model, you’ll benefit from the estate bodystyle’s extra boot space, which is 495 litres in the newest models. It also has a more practical hatchback-style opening, rather than the narrower opening of the saloon.

Black Edition has been an option on the A4 Avant since a mid-life update on the fourth-generation B8 model, so you can find these or newer fifth-generation B9 models to suit your needs.

What are the Audi A4 Avant Black Edition specs?

If you’ve got your eye on newer used A4 Avant Black Edition models, you’ll notice they all come with similar 2.0-litre engines.

There are 150hp (35 TFSI) and 204hp (40 TFSI) petrols, and 163hp (35 TDI) and 204hp (40 TDI) diesels.

Previously, there were even more powerful 245hp (45 TFSI) petrol models and even 3.0-litre V6 diesels, but you’ll have to find a slightly older model because Audi stopped selling these in favour of more efficient options.

The standout features of an A4 Avant Black Edition for sale are the black styling pack – which includes a blacked-out Audi logo on the grille – and large 19-inch rotor-style alloys.

Standard equipment is the same as the S line and includes lowered suspension, LED headlights and tinted windows.

Newer A4 Avant models also come with three-zone climate control, a powered boot lid, all-round parking sensors, a reversing camera, a digital instrument cluster, and a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where the A4 Avant Black Edition sits in the Audi range

Although Black Edition models are considered to be top-spec, they’re very similar to cheaper S line models in terms of kit.

If you’re looking at newer A4 Avant cars, then mid-spec Sport is the lowest level you can get, so there’s no bad pick.

Older models come with entry-level SE and Technik trims, and range-topping Vorsprung models were sold for a short time.
