What is the Audi A3 Technik?

Technik is a trim level used across many of Audi’s smallest models to signify the entry-level version.

An Audi A3 Technik will leave you far from short-changed, with all the mod-cons you’d expect from a premium German model.

Although it was available for a short period on the second-generation model, the A3 Technik cars that we sell will belong to the far more premium fourth-generation model, introduced in 2020.

What are the Audi A3 Technik specs?

Engine choice for the fourth-generation A3 Technik is very simple because there are only two options, and they both produce 150hp.

That power comes from either a 1.5-litre petrol or a 2.0-litre diesel, and both offer an excellent blend of performance and economy.

If you want one of the plug-in hybrid models, you’ll need to go for a higher trim level, but we think the 35 TFSI and 35 TDI engines above are great for the majority of drivers.

Whichever trim level you pick, the fourth-generation Audi A3 is a very modern and well-equipped car, so the Technik variant won’t disappoint.

You get a digital instrument cluster, a large touchscreen infotainment system, LED headlights, alloy wheels and plenty of safety equipment like a lane departure warning system and autonomous emergency braking (AEB).

As well as support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, some configurations have Alexa voice control.

Where the A3 Technik sits in the Audi range

Technik was the entry-level model when the latest A3 was launched, replacing the previously available entry-level SE trim.

Higher-specification models include the well-equipped Sport and the desirable S line trim, both with even more standard equipment.

For a short period, Audi also sold limited-run Edition 1 cars and very premium Vorsprung variants. The current lineup is capped by the aggressive-looking Black Edition model, which primarily offers styling tweaks over the S line trim.
