What is the Audi A3 Edition 1?

When manufacturers launch new cars, they sometimes offer special editions with even more equipment for a limited time. That’s exactly what the Audi A3 Edition 1 is.

It was actually on sale for a few years and sits toward the very top of the lineup, so it’s a high-spec car with plenty of appeal.

More affordable than the range-topper but with similar levels of equipment, it sold well, and there are plenty of them available to buy used.

What are the Audi A3 Edition 1 specs?

There are only two engine options for the A3 Edition 1, and many buyers will end up picking a 35 TFSI model, which has a 150hp 1.5-litre petrol engine.

A 150hp 2.0-litre diesel, badged 35 TDI, is also available. It should be more efficient, especially for drivers travelling long distances.

The smaller 1.0-litre petrol that you can get on lower-spec models isn’t available for the Edition 1, given that it’s meant to be a more premium option.

Used Audi A3 Edition 1 features and equipment

Edition 1 models come with distinctive 19-inch alloy wheels, black details along the outside of the car, and matrix LED headlights that adapt to prevent blinding oncoming traffic.

Inside, there are electrically adjustable front seats, Alcantara and faux-leather upholstery, ambient lighting and a digital instrument cluster.

That’s on top of equipment you get on lower trim levels, like dual-zone climate control and a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Where the A3 Edition 1 sits in the Audi range

For the time that the A3 Edition 1 was on sale, it sat one step from the top of the range, beneath the premium Vorsprung model.

Many buyers also opt for a mid-spec S line car, which comes with more than just the basics as well as a desirable sporty bodykit.

Lower-spec Sport and entry-level Technik cars are also available, but neither of them can be considered short on kit.
