Black Edition sits at the top of the A3 range as a premium and costly option, but you can pick a used Audi A3 Black Edition up for little more than other sporty-looking trim levels, making it a bargain.
It bridges the gap between the A3 and S3 well, and offers a far more aggressive-looking approach the regular A3 models.
Because it’s part of the standard A3 range, you can take your pick from Audi’s very efficient petrol and diesel engines.
What are the Audi A3 Black Edition specs?
Newer A3 Black Edition models come with the 150hp 1.5-litre petrol engine (badged 35 TFSI) and the 150hp 2.0-litre diesel engine (badged 35 TDI), so there should be no worries about high running costs.
Older models also came with a 190hp 2.0-litre petrol (40 TFSI) and the 184hp 2.0-litre diesel engine (40 TDI) out of the previous-generation Volkswagen Golf GTD.
Audi doesn’t sell its 204hp or 245hp plug-in hybrids in Black Edition trim, so you’ll have to pick a different model if you want around 30 miles of electric-only range.

An A3 Black Edition for sale is a far more aggressive-looking model than the sporty-looking S line, thanks to the inclusion of the black styling pack that includes a blacked-out Audi logo on the grille and 19-inch rotor-style alloy wheels.
This model also gets LED headlights, scrolling indicators, lowered suspension and a selection of driving modes.
Other standard kit includes dual-zone climate control, parking sensors, cruise control, a digital instrument cluster and a large touchscreen infotainment system.

An Audi A3 Black Edition for sale is the very highest level of A3 you can get, sitting above the very popular S line model.
Plug-in hybrid models with the TFSI e engine are also available in S line Competition trim, which isn’t as aggressive-looking as Black Edition.
Sport is the current entry-level option, but previous SE and Technik models kicked off the range. Though more affordable, they’re still well-equipped.
