Start nowThere are a few different types of seven-seater cars for sale you need to be aware of.
> Seven-seater SUVs – large SUVs with seven seats create more space while keeping a large boot
> Seven-seater MPVs – if you need more interior space, a van-like MPV can be a great option for families with lots of headroom and an airy cabin feel
> Seven-seater estate cars – rarer but seven-seat estate cars do exist with the final two seats folding out in the boot
There are a lot of worthy seven-seater cars on the market, each with different levels of space, comfort and practicality.
A popular seven-seat Ford is the Galaxy, which uses its MPV-shaped body to its advantage, creating masses of interior space and plenty of space for everyone on longer journeys.
If you want a slightly more upmarket MPV then a seven-seat BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is a great choice, combining the latest technology with the blue and white badge proudly on the front.
But if you want something that’s easier to daily-drive and isn’t as big then perhaps a seven-seat SUV is better for you.
Our top picks are a used Volvo XC90, Range Rover and Peugeot e-5008 – all of which offer high levels of comfort.
More often than not, seven-seater cars are the same to live with as any other five-seater car.
The two rear-most seats tend to fold out from the boot, so having them doesn't usually make the car much longer.
Boot space is compromised when all seats are up though. For example, the Peugeot e-5008 has a 916-litre boot that shrinks to 348 litres with all seven seats in place – only just shy of a VW Golf’s boot.
For daily driving, you won’t notice much of a difference between a seven-seater and a five-seater car because they’re often very similar in size.
A seven-seater, while it may sound much bigger, usually isn’t because the rear-most seats fold out in the boot instead of a fixed third full row.
If you often carry six passengers, we’d recommend going for a seven-seater as the extra two seats can be hidden away, but if you rarely need them, go for a five-seater.
A seven-seater car for sale used to be more tailored towards massive families, but now they can easily fit into more people’s lives thanks to the rise of SUVs.
This depends massively on the size of the suitcase, but with all the seats in place, we’d imagine you could fit four aeroplane cabin bags in most seven-seaters.
Yep, seven-seater hybrids include the Kia Sorento, Ford Galaxy and Nissan X-Trail.
If you want the maximum interior space, we’d recommend a Škoda Kodiaq, BMW X7 and Land Rover Defender.
They’re as easy to drive as almost any other SUV or MPV, with great visibility and smooth engines and electric motors.
Six-seater cars are much rarer than seven-seater cars and often feature three seats at the front and three seats in the middle or two in the front, two in the middle, two in the back (or the boot).
Seven-seaters usually have a two-three-two layout.
