OMODA & JAECOO UK has set a new benchmark for plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles, proving that its latest SUVs can easily outrun their official factory range estimates.
During an extensive two-day economy challenge independently overseen by telematics specialist Webfleet, the brand’s flagship plug-in hybrid SUVs comfortably surpassed their official WLTP figures.
JAECOO 7 and OMODA 7 range test results:
The headline-grabber was the JAECOO 7 SHS-P, which covered an impressive 828 miles on a single tank and charge – making it currently the only plug-in hybrid SUV on sale in the UK capable of breaking the 800-mile barrier.
That distance beat the car’s official combined WLTP figure of 745 miles by 11.14%.
Not far behind was the all-new OMODA 7 SHS-P, which recorded 770 miles during the same challenge.
That figure represents a 10% improvement over its official WLTP claim of more than 700 miles.

What was the setup?
The two-day test took place at UTAC Millbrook, the world-renowned proving ground in Bedfordshire.
To accurately replicate everyday driving demands, the cars were put through a varied regimen across the facility’s two-mile, five-lane banked circuit – emulating motorway and dual-carriageway conditions – as well as Millbrook's demanding hill route to simulate winding countryside roads.
Both models rely on OMODA & JAECOO's fifth-generation Super Hybrid System (SHS).
The powertrain pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with an 18.3 kWh battery pack, delivering 56 miles of pure electric driving.
Throughout the challenge, the system’s energy management software continuously adjusted power output between the electric motor and combustion engine to maximise real-world efficiency.
