Hybrid
Previously available as a petrol hatchback, the fourth-generation version, sold from 2020 onwards, is a hybrid only.
Both pair a 91hp 1.5-litre petrol with a single electric motor to produce either 116hp or 130hp.
The difference isn’t huge, with 0-62mph covered in 9.7 seconds or 9.2 seconds, and neither is fuel economy at 67-71mpg, but be aware that they’re only available on select trim levels.
What’s the best Yaris model?
Which Yaris you should buy depends on what’s important to you. Here are a couple of examples:
– Budget-friendly option – if your goal is to keep the purchase cost or finance payments low, the Toyota Yaris Icon is a really strong contender with more kit than other entry-level superminis
– Luxurious trim – top-spec Toyota Yaris Design models are fully loaded with kit, but don’t limit yourself to just one trim because GR Sport is just as appealing
– Performance variant – with 130hp, the most powerful hybrid is only quicker by a tiny margin, but it still counts
– Efficient PHEV version – similarly, the 116hp model promises around 4mpg more on paper, while real-world differences may be less obvious
