What is the Volkswagen Touran SE Family?

SE Family is a fairly low trim level in the Touran lineup, but it comes with more than just the standard level of equipment.

As the name suggests, a Volkswagen Touran SE Family has a few additional features geared towards giving families with children a better experience on the road.

This trim level became available on the second-generation model in around 2015, so you can pick from older and more affordable versions or far newer examples.

What are the Volkswagen Touran SE Family specs?

Volkswagen’s usual range of efficient petrol and diesel engines are available in the Touran, so there are options for town drivers and long-distance drivers too.

Your choice of petrol engines includes the 110hp 1.2-litre TSI, which was replaced by the 115hp 1.0-litre TSI, and a more powerful 150hp 1.5-litre unit.

There are two diesel options, including a 115hp version that used a 1.6-litre engine in older cars and a 2.0-litre engine in newer models, plus a 150hp 2.0-litre.

Used Volkswagen Touran SE Family features and equipment

Standard kit varies a lot by model year, because the car has spent nearly a decade on sale in this generation.

As a guide, newer models get an opening sunroof, three-zone climate control, front and rear parking sensors, adaptive cruise control, a digital instrument cluster and a touchscreen infotainment system.

Some of the older models come with a more simple air-conditioning control panel and a regular instrument cluster, but they’re still worth considering.

Where the Touran SE Family sits in the Volkswagen range

When the trim level first launched, SE Family was a reasonably well-equipped model sitting above SE and S models.

More expensive variants include SEL, which gets things like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and the sporty-looking R-Line.

Later on, Volkswagen removed the bottom two trim levels to make SE Family the cheapest version, adding in a Match variant between it and SEL.
