What is the Volkswagen Polo BlueGT?

On the whole, a Polo BlueGT is designed to be a sporty variant of this popular, high-quality supermini, so it gets a more stylish bodykit than lower-spec versions.

It’s also considered a reasonably high-spec model, so it gets a lot of kit and a very clever engine that’s designed to boost efficiency.

Polo BlueGT models belong to the fifth-generation model, which was introduced in 2009 and stayed on sale until 2017. This means that you can pick up fairly new models for a very reasonable price.

What are the Volkswagen Polo BlueGT specs?

The Volkswagen Polo BlueGT is only available with petrol engines, and the 150hp 1.4-litre unit that more recent models come with is excellent. It can shut down half of the engine when cruising to save fuel.

Earlier models have 140hp, but they still get the same ‘active cylinder technology’ that shuts down two of the four cylinders.

There’s a mix of manuals and automatics – both are great, and the smooth-shifting dual-clutch automatic really suits this car’s performance.

The Volkswagen Polo BlueGT was the highest-spec trim you could get when it was on sale, coming second to only the performance GTI hot hatch variant, which is generally considered a slightly separate model.

It sits at a similar level to the R-Line, which is another sporty variant that’s available with a wider range of engines, including less powerful ones.

There are also entry-level S and S A/C models, mid-spec Match and SEL cars, and special-edition Beats models that have an upgraded sound system.
