What is the Ford Mustang Mach 1?

Ford has been using the Mach 1 name for almost as long as the Mustang itself, and it signifies the hottest version of the iconic model.

However, when the sixth-generation model launched in 2015 with right-hand drive, it was the first time that the Mustang Mach 1 had ever been available in the UK and Europe, with only the USA getting this top-tier trim previously.

Even more appealing is that a Mustang Mach 1 for sale benefits from some parts borrowed from Shelby’s catalogue – a car company that does even more to the Mustang.

What are the Ford Mustang Mach 1 specs?

The Ford Mustang Mach 1 comes with the same 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine as the regular Mustang, but it has a slightly higher power output of 460hp.

Peak power is also delivered slightly higher in the rev range, making this a model that loves to be driven hard. Good thing it sounds great.

It comes with the same 529 Nm of torque as the regular Mustang, but it’s slightly quicker. There’s a six-speed manual with rev-matching on downshifts, and a 10-speed automatic.

Used Ford Mustang Mach 1 features and equipment

Mach 1 models are distinguishable by their different alloy wheel designs, and although they’re 19 inches, just like the regular Mustang, they have wider tyres for more grip under acceleration.

Inside, a used Mustang Mach 1 comes with a more premium leather finish, an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an upgraded 12-speaker B&O sound system.

Other equipment includes LED headlights, a large digital instrument cluster, and specific Mach 1 interior and exterior styling.

Where the Mustang Mach 1 sits in the Ford range

The Ford Mustang range is fairly limited because it’s designed first and foremost to be a performance model, so there’s no such thing as a basic version.

The cheapest used Ford Mustang comes with a 2.3-litre EcoBoost petrol engine, but most buyers opt for the 5.0-litre V8 in the Mustang GT model.
