BMW delivers a re-vamped 3 Series Saloon and 3 Series Touring. New tech, more standard equipment and hybrid engines are all in the works!

It’s spring clean time over at BMW, with a refreshed version of the 3 Series saloon and 3 Series Touring announced for July. With the current 3 Series already so popular, the new tweaks will enhance the existing package and looks. There will be four petrol engines to choose from, as well as a plug-in hybrid, which could be good for both the wallet and reducing emissions. The two diesel engines will both have mild-hybrid technology which will also help keep running costs down (much to the relief of anyone wanting to fill up the tank at the moment). All models come with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive hardware.

For the performance car fanatics, both the 3 Series saloon and Touring will be headed by models that have been tweaked by the boffins at BMW’s M division, the motorsport manufacturing side of the family. The M-fettled models (which sit below the red-blooded, fully M-rated M3) will offer 184hp to 375hp – which should be more than enough for those sporting moments.

Looks-wise, it’s some extra highlights and a bit of chiseling to keep the current 3 Series young and fresh. The kidney grille and headlights have been redesigned to be slimmer and sportier, there’s extra contouring to the front and back and the wheel arches are wider and more muscular. Look out for fancy extra flares like blue light effects below the headlights at night.

Inside both models get a spruced-up cockpit with a huge BMW Curved Display screen (a 12.3-inch drivers screen and a 14.9-inch control display merged into one), voice control, slimmer more modern air vents and a Harman Kardon sound system. The 3 Series saloon can come with an electronic glass roof, and the Touring has a panoramic glass sunroof – which might come in handy for the next UK heatwave. Extra safety features include an anti-dazzle rear view mirror, BMW’s Park Distance Control and 3D view function which you can also use remotely on your smartphone.
