Range Rover Evoque models explained

There have been lots of trim levels available on the Range Rover Evoque over the years, but we’ve picked out six popular options that are commonly available.

Range Rover Evoque S

This is the entry-level Evoque, but entry-level really doesn’t mean basic and it sets a solid foundation for the rest of the trim levels.

To start off, it has a very comfortable interior with leather upholstery, electrically adjustable seats and heating for the front seats, steering wheel, windscreen and washer jets.

You’ll also get a digital instrument cluster and an 11.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and a wireless phone charger as standard – it’s the same system you get on top-spec models.

Driver assist systems include all-round parking sensors, a reversing camera and Land Rover’s very capable Terrain Response 2 system with dedicated drive modes for snow, sand, mud and rock. If you’re just heading to M&S, it’ll be just fine in automatic mode.

Range Rover Evoque Dynamic SE

With this model, you get two types of upgrades – Dynamic adds a sportier and more stylish design, including larger 19-inch alloys and a redesigned LED daytime running light signature.

Some notable features include a 400W, 11-speaker Meridian sound system, chrome detailing and a powered boot lid. The digital instrument cluster also gets an upgrade so you can customise it to show driving information, entertainment and active safety data including navigation.

Maybe the most useful feature is the 360-degree parking camera – it’ll really help you keep those alloy wheels in check in tight car parks.

Range Rover Evoque Autobiography

If you want the luxury of a full-sized Range Rover without paying over £100,000, this version of the Evoque is the one to go for. It’s the type of car you’d look at to see where all the other cars are heading – call it a pioneer, if you will.

It was one of the first mainstream cars to feature a digital, camera-based rear-view mirror, and we’re already seeing lots of other cars copy this feature, including Kia and Polestar. Don’t worry, you can still switch it to a regular mirror if you prefer the old school.

The Windsor leather is also a sight to behold (or a feeling to savour), they’re some of the plushest, softest seats around. You’ll also get upgraded 510gsm carpet mats that might even make you want to take your shoes off… just put them back on before you drive away with the full-sized sliding panoramic sunroof open.

Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic S

When the second-generation Range Rover Evoque was in its early days, Land Rover offered an R-Dynamic pack, which added black and copper detailing for a more aggressive look.

If you’re looking at these slightly older models, you’ll get a 10-inch infotainment screen, but it’s still the upgraded Pivi Pro system which is much better than the one you get in the first-generation Evoque, sold between 2011 and 2019.

It has all the essentials, like a reversing camera, parking sensors, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, adaptive cruise control and heated, electrically adjustable front seats.

Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic SE

It’s really worth upgrading to this model because it has upgraded LED headlights with automatic high beams, keyless entry, Land Rover’s high-performance Meridian sound system, a powered boot lid and stylish 20-inch alloy wheels.

You can’t get this model with the lowest-powered D165 diesel engine, so you’ll have a selection of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid powertrains all with automatic gearboxes and all-wheel drive.

Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HSE

HSE has long been a high-spec option for Range Rovers, and while it may no longer be available new, you still can’t do much better than to buy a used Range Rover Evoque R-Dynamic HSE.

Instead of adding more kit (R-Dynamic SE is already fully loaded), this focuses on luxury. You’ll get perforated Windsor leather upholstery in even more places and a fixed panoramic sunroof.

Range Rover Evoque petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid

The Range Rover Evoque has an extensive list of engine options, most of which with eight- or nine-speed automatic gearboxes and all-wheel drive. A limited selection have manual gearboxes and/or front-wheel drive.

Note that all automatic models use mild hybrid technology to keep emissions (and your tax bill) lower.

Range Rover Evoque diesel

Range Rover Evoque plug-in hybrid

This plug-in hybrid option combines a 200hp, 1.5-litre three-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and a 15kWh battery pack.

Land Rover claimed 141mpg and 34 miles of electric-only range in the early days, but an efficiency improvement in 2023 upgraded this to 202-203mpg and 38 miles of electric range.

Most buyers will charge at home – with a 7kW charger it’ll take around 1.5 hours to fully charge, costing as little as £1.05 on an off-peak rate (7p/kWh). You can also choose to use a public rapid charger for 0-80% in 30 minutes using a 32kW peak energy flow, but expect to pay more for the convenience.

What’s the best Range Rover Evoque model?

Range Rover Evoque interior

Budget-friendly option – we would recommend the R-Dynamic SE, because it includes some worthwhile improvements over the basic S and R-Dynamic S models. It was available early on in the Evoque’s time on sale, so you should be able to pick up a pretty good deal.

Luxurious trim – Autobiography models are the ones to go for if you want things like Windsor leather and a digital rear-view mirror (depending on model year), but if you want to spend a little less, you could also consider an equally well-specced R-Dynamic HSE.

Performance model – you could pick the P300 petrol with a 0-62mph time of 6.8 seconds, but it’s hard to recommend when you compare it to the P300e plug-in hybrid which’ll do the timed sprint in 6.4 seconds, plus it stands out with its exceptional efficiency.
