BMW 1 Series (120) front three quarters

Sounds like you’re already set on a BMW 1 Series, and you might even have chosen your preferred trim (Sport, M Sport, M Sport Pro or the M135 hot hatch), but what about personalising it?

Whether you’re buying a used BMW 1 Series or you’re looking at customising your new BMW 1 Series, picking the right colour is about more than just expressing yourself.

The right shade can also have an impact further down the line, like how much it shows dirt and how it might affect the resale value.

Here’s the low down on all the colours you can get with the fourth-generation F70 1 Series, launched in 2024.

Popular BMW 1 Series colour choices

It’s easy to see why Jet Black and Alpine White are popular picks, because they’re free.

But a lot of BMW’s imagery shows the 1 Series in its Thundernight purple hue, which we think looks great.

Brooklyn Grey and Skyscraper Grey are unlikely to be offensive, increasing your chances of selling it later on.

But if you’re looking to make an impact, Frozen Portimao Blue or Frozen Pure Grey have a matte-like finish.

Maintaining your 1 Series’ paintwork

Regular washing is the easiest way to ensure your car is still shining years after you bought it – once every two weeks is a good routine to get into.

You can also consider adding a protective layer on top, like wax or a semi-permanent ceramic shield, to prevent contaminants from damaging the paint and bodywork.

If you’re buying a used BMW 1 Series from cinch, we offer our cinchShield package to protect your paint from dirt, stains and other harsh contaminants picked up from the road.

If you do get any small chips in the paint, you can get touch-up paint using your 1 Series’ paint code without taking your car to a body shop for a respray.

Do certain 1 Series’ colours impact resale value?

We already know colour choice can impact the desirability of a car (could you imagine buying a Ferrari in anything other than red?), but the impact is less pronounced with more affordable, everyday cars.

Our best advice would be to pick the colour you prefer, because the impact will generally be minimal.

That said, choose one of BMW’s premium-looking Frozen shades to increase desirability when it comes to resale time.

Which colour used 1 Series should I buy?

As you can see, there really aren’t any bad BMW 1 Series colours. You get the usual black, white and grey options for an understated look, or a couple of more vibrant options to make it stand out.

Once you’re ready to start your search, you can use the handy colours filter on cinch to finetune your used BMW 1 Series search.
