About the Suzuki Ignis

The Ignis is a small SUV that has a lot going for it. Not only is it very capable off-road, but it's also practical, comfortable, economical, and affordable.  

It first launched in the UK in 2017 after becoming a hit in Japan and India. Since then, it has perfectly spanned the gap between the Swift hatchback (on which it shares the same platform) and Jimny small off-roader.  

Inside, there is plenty of space for four adults, while the cabin is filled with durable materials and a decent infotainment system. It’s a brilliant option for a family car, or just a spacious SUV for any motorist who needs it.  

The Ignis’s main rivals are the Fiat 500X, Ford Ecosport, Mazda CX-3, and the Nissan Juke, but the quality reputation that comes with a Suzuki might tip some buyers.  

You can choose from a range of models, including the Adventure, SZ5, and SZ-T trims.  

What features does the Suzuki Ignis have?

A used Ignis has a lot to offer for a small and affordable SUV, including its peppy engine and surprisingly impressive off-roading capabilities. 

The entry-level trim is the Ignis SZ3, and it offers all of the standard features you’d expect at a car in its price range like DAB radio and front fog lights.  

The SZ-T is the mid-level option and gets keyless entry and start, rear parking camera, and roof rails. 

Across the range, there’s a seven-inch infotainment system, built-in sat-nav, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and aux ports, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.   

Moving towards the rear, the Ignis offers a sizeable 267-litre boot, which is plenty for most people and expands to 1,100 litres with the rear seats folded flat.

What's the Suzuki Ignis like to drive?

The Ignis offers one main engine option – a 1.2-litre hybrid engine that produces 83hp and a decent 107Nm of torque.  

This is said to return up to 55.7mpg, according to Suzuki, which is very impressive for a city car-sized SUV.  

As standard, the Ignis comes with a five-speed manual gearbox, but there is the option of an automatic gearbox on entry-level models for those who want it.  

Additionally, the Ignis is offered as standard in front-wheel drive only, but higher-spec models feature Suzuki’s Allgrip 4x4 system, meaning the mighty Ignis can venture off-road like its Jimny relative.
