How much does the Vauxhall Zafira cost to run?

The 1.6L diesel is the most economical Vauxhall Zafira to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency. Compared to the competition in the Small MPV segment, it’s the car that’s going to have the most negative impact on your monthly budget.

The Vauxhall Zafira 1.6L diesel costs £20.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band B.

It does just under 69 MPG on average, which means it will cost £9.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Nissan Note 1.5L diesel and the more thirsty Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 15, which is lower than the Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Peugeot Partner Tepee 1.6L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Peugeot Partner Tepee has the lowest insurance group.)

Vauxhall Zafira: How big is the boot?

The Vauxhall Zafira has a below average boot space (183 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair. Alternatively you could load up with one large bag or one cabin bag instead.

Worth knowing, the Citroen Berlingo Multispace MPV is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 5 large bags with its 762 litres.

Is the Vauxhall Zafira easy to park?

Given a typical supermarket space, the Zafira is hard to park. (If you want the detail it will fill just over three quarters of the bay). This is the widest car in the Small MPV class, and you may need to breathe in a bit when getting in and out.

When it comes to parking on the street, the Zafira is one of the hardest. It has a turning circle of 11m, and a length of 4615m, giving you a relatively small 185mm gap to turn the car in and out.

If you don’t have a drive, you should look at the best in class for parallel parking instead, the Kia Venga.

Which Vauxhall Zafira has the best performance?

The fastest Vauxhall Zafira from 0-60, is the 2.0L diesel (if you’re a petrol head, it has 400 lbs/ft torque and 195 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 8.5 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6L petrol, which will beat your Vauxhall Zafira to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Vauxhall Zafira tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Vauxhall Zafira 2.0L diesel which has 400 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1650kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
