How much does the Vauxhall Insignia cost to run?

The 2.0L diesel is the most economical Vauxhall Insignia to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency. Compared to the competition in the Large Family segment, it’s the car that’s going to have the most negative impact on your monthly budget.

The Vauxhall Insignia 2.0L diesel is free to tax, as it sits in tax band A.

It does just over 76 MPG on average, which means it will cost £8.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Dacia Logan 1.5L diesel and the more thirsty Peugeot 508 2.0L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 15, which is lower than the Ford Mondeo 2.0L diesel, but higher than the Skoda Superb 1.9L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Dacia Logan has the lowest insurance group.)

Vauxhall Insignia: How big is the boot?

The Vauxhall Insignia estate has a bigger boot than the hatchback (it can hold 536 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This allows the estate to take one pushchair and 3 large bags or 4 large bags. While the hatchback takes just 4 large bags.

Worth knowing, the Skoda Superb estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 4 large bags with its 644 litres.

Is the Vauxhall Insignia easy to park?

This is one of the widest cars in the class, which makes it feel like a bit of a squeeze in the multi-stories. If that stresses you a bit, try the much narrower Dacia Logan.

This car is actually 85mm longer than the average street space, so parallel parking will never be easy.

Which Vauxhall Insignia has the best performance?

The fastest Vauxhall Insignia from 0-60, is the 2.8L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 435 lbs/ft torque and 325 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 5.6 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Skoda Superb 2.0L petrol, which will beat your Vauxhall Insignia to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Vauxhall Insignia tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Vauxhall Insignia 2.0L petrol which has 400 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 2200kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
