How much does the Toyota RAV 4 cost to run?

The 2.0L diesel is the most economical Toyota RAV 4 to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Toyota RAV 4 2.0L diesel costs £125.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band D.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Suzuki Vitara 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Hyundai Tucson 2.0L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 23, which is lower than the Audi Q3 2.0L diesel, but higher than the Ford Kuga 2.0L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Suzuki Vitara has the lowest insurance group.)

Toyota RAV 4: How big is the boot?

The Toyota RAV 4 has a below average boot space (456 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and 2 large bags. Alternatively you could load up with 3 large bags or 3 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Land Rover Discovery Sport SUV is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 7 large bags with its 981 litres.

Is the Toyota RAV 4 easy to park?

The Toyota RAV 4 is very middle of the road - it fills just over three quarters of a space. There are lots of wider cars, but just as many that are narrower and feel easier to park. For example, the Suzuki Jimny.

If you don’t park in the street that much, then the RAV 4 is fine. It will go in to an average street slot, giving you a gap of 299mm to swing in and out. But if you street park a lot you may want to look at the Suzuki Jimny.

Which Toyota RAV 4 has the best performance?

The fastest Toyota RAV 4 from 0-60, is the 2.2L diesel (if you’re a petrol head, it has 400 lbs/ft torque and 177 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 9.3 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Audi Q3 1.4L petrol, which will beat your Toyota RAV 4 to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Toyota RAV 4 tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Toyota RAV 4 2.2L diesel which has 400 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 2000kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
