How much does the SEAT Leon cost to run?

The 1.6L diesel is the most economical SEAT Leon to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency. Compared to the competition in the Small Family segment, it’s the car that’s going to have the most negative impact on your monthly budget.

The SEAT Leon 1.6L diesel is free to tax, as it sits in tax band A.

It does not far off 86 MPG on average, which means it will cost £7.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Peugeot 308 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Audi A3 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 14, which is lower than the Audi A3 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Ford Focus 1.5L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Honda Civic has the lowest insurance group.)

SEAT Leon: How big is the boot?

You can take your pick of three body shapes with the SEAT Leon, ranging from the big boot in the estate to the smallest in the hatchback.

The estate can take the most: 5 large bags. The coupe and hatchback can take 3 large bags.

Worth knowing, the Peugeot 308 estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 5 large bags with its 810 litres.

Is the SEAT Leon easy to park?

This is one of the widest cars in the class, which makes it feel like a bit of a squeeze in the multi-stories. If that stresses you a bit, try the much narrower Skoda Rapid.

If you don’t park in the street that much, then the Leon is fine. It will go in to an average street slot, giving you a gap of 441mm to swing in and out. But if you street park a lot you may want to look at the Suzuki Baleno.

Which SEAT Leon has the best performance?

The fastest SEAT Leon from 0-60, is the 2.0L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 380 lbs/ft torque and 300 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Volkswagen Golf 2.0L petrol, which will beat your SEAT Leon to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the SEAT Leon tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the SEAT Leon 2.0L diesel which has 380 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1800kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
