How much does the Renault Megane cost to run?

The 1.5L diesel is the most economical Renault Megane to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Renault Megane 1.5L diesel is free to tax, as it sits in tax band A.

It does almost 81 MPG on average, which means it will cost £8.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Peugeot 308 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Citroen C4 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 16, which is lower than the Citroen C4 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Ford Focus 1.5L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Honda Civic has the lowest insurance group.)

Renault Megane: How big is the boot?

You can take your pick of three body shapes with the Renault Megane, ranging from the big boot in the estate to the smallest in the coupe.

The estate can take the most luggage; 4 large bags. The hatchback can take 3 large bags and finally the coupe can take 2 large bags.

Worth knowing, the Peugeot 308 estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 5 large bags with its 810 litres.

Is the Renault Megane easy to park?

This is one of the widest cars in the class, which makes it feel like a bit of a squeeze in the multi-stories. If that stresses you a bit, try the much narrower Skoda Rapid.

When it comes to parking on the street, the Megane is one of the hardest. It has a turning circle of 11m, and a length of 4400m, giving you a relatively small 400mm gap to turn the car in and out.

If you don’t have a drive, you should look at the best in class for parallel parking instead, the Suzuki Baleno.

Which Renault Megane has the best performance?

The fastest Renault Megane from 0-60, is the 1.8L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 400 lbs/ft torque and 300 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 5.7 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the SEAT Leon 2.0L petrol, which will beat your Renault Megane to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Renault Megane tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Renault Megane 1.6L diesel which has 380 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1700kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
