How much does the Renault Clio cost to run?

The 1.5L diesel is the most economical Renault Clio to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Renault Clio 1.5L diesel is free to tax, as it sits in tax band A.

It does just over 88 MPG on average, which means it will cost £7.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Peugeot 208 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Ford Fiesta 1.5L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 10, which is lower than the Ford Fiesta 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Citroen C3 1.4L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Ford KA+ has the lowest insurance group.)

Renault Clio: How big is the boot?

The Renault Clio has an above average boot space (293 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and one large bag. Alternatively you could load up with 2 large bags or 2 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Skoda Fabia estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 3 large bags with its 515 litres.

Is the Renault Clio easy to park?

This is one of the widest cars in the class, which makes it feel like a bit of a squeeze in the multi-stories. If that stresses you a bit, try the much narrower Hyundai I10.

When it comes to parking on the street, the Clio is one of the hardest. It has a turning circle of 11m, and a length of 4039m, giving you a relatively small 761mm gap to turn the car in and out.

If you don’t have a drive, you should look at the best in class for parallel parking instead, the Smart Forfour.

Which Renault Clio has the best performance?

The fastest Renault Clio from 0-60, is the 1.6L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 260 lbs/ft torque and 220 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 6.6 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the DS 3 1.6L petrol, which will beat your Renault Clio to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Renault Clio tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Renault Clio 1.5L diesel which has 260 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1200kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
