How much does the MINI Countryman cost to run?

The 1.6L diesel is the most economical MINI Countryman to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The MINI Countryman 1.6L diesel costs £30.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band C.

It does just over 64 MPG on average, which means it will cost £9.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Citroen C4 Cactus 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Jeep Renegade 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 13, which is lower than the Fiat 500X 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Jeep Renegade 1.6L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Citroen C3 Aircross has the lowest insurance group.)

MINI Countryman: How big is the boot?

The MINI Countryman has an above average boot space (412 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and 2 large bags. Alternatively you could load up with 3 large bags or 3 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Renault Kadjar hatchback is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 4 large bags with its 647 litres.

Is the MINI Countryman easy to park?

This is one of the widest cars in the class, which makes it feel like a bit of a squeeze in the multi-stories. If that stresses you a bit, try the much narrower Citroen C4 Cactus.

If you park on the street regularly, this is one of the cars to shortlist. At 4223m long it gives you reasonable 577mm space to move the car in and out of the bay.

Which MINI Countryman has the best performance?

The fastest MINI Countryman from 0-60, is the 2.0L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 350 lbs/ft torque and 231 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 6.5 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Mercedes Benz GLA 2.0L petrol, which will beat your MINI Countryman to 60 by 1.7 seconds. That doesn’t sound much, but in 0-60 terms it’s actually a big gap.

What size caravan or trailer, can the MINI Countryman tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the MINI Countryman 2.0L diesel which has 400 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1800kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
