How much does the Mercedes Benz C Class cost to run?

The 1.6L diesel is the most economical Mercedes Benz C Class to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

Sadly this is the most expensive model in the range to tax at £20.00 a year, in band B, so you may want to consider some of the other engines.

It does just over 72 MPG on average, which means it will cost £8.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Volvo V60 2.4L diesel and the more thirsty Citroen DS5 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 23, which is lower than the Citroen DS5 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Volvo S60 1.6L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Audi A4 has the lowest insurance group.)

Mercedes Benz C Class: How big is the boot?

The Mercedes Benz C Class comes in four different body shapes, with different boots, the estate able to take up to 482.

This allows space for one pushchair and 3 large bags or 4 large bags. The saloon can take 4 large bags, the coupe fits 3 large bags and the convertible can take 2 cabin bags.

Worth knowing, the Volvo V60 estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 3 large bags with its 564 litres.

Is the Mercedes Benz C Class easy to park?

While not the absolute narrowest car (that is the BMW 1 Series), this is in the top third for ease of parking in car parks. Given a typical supermarket space, it will fill three quarters of the space.

If you don’t park in the street that much, then the C Class is fine. It will go in to an average street slot, giving you a gap of 161mm to swing in and out. But if you street park a lot you may want to look at the BMW 1 Series.

Which Mercedes Benz C Class has the best performance?

The fastest Mercedes Benz C Class from 0-60, is the 4.0L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 700 lbs/ft torque and 510 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Jaguar XE 5L petrol, which will beat your Mercedes Benz C Class to 60 by 0.6 seconds. That doesn’t sound much, but in 0-60 terms it’s actually a big gap.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Mercedes Benz C Class tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Mercedes Benz C Class 3.0L diesel which has 620 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1800kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
