How much does the Mazda 6 cost to run?

The 2.2L diesel is the most economical Mazda 6 to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Mazda 6 2.2L diesel costs £20.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band B.

It does just over 67 MPG on average, which means it will cost £9.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Dacia Logan 1.5L diesel and the more thirsty Peugeot 508 2.2L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 19, which is lower than the Toyota Avensis 2.2L diesel, but higher than the Ford Mondeo 1.6L petrol. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Dacia Logan has the lowest insurance group.)

Mazda 6: How big is the boot?

You can take your pick of three body shapes with the Mazda 6, ranging from the big boot in the estate to the smallest in the saloon.

In reality the estate, hatchback and saloon can all take 4 large bags.

Worth knowing, the Skoda Superb estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 4 large bags with its 644 litres.

Is the Mazda 6 easy to park?

The Mazda 6 is very middle of the road - it fills three quarters of a space. There are lots of wider cars, but just as many that are narrower and feel easier to park. For example, the Dacia Logan.

This car is actually 20mm longer than the average street space, so parallel parking will never be easy.

Which Mazda 6 has the best performance?

The fastest Mazda 6 from 0-60, is the 2.2L diesel (if you’re a petrol head, it has 420 lbs/ft torque and 175 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 7.9 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Ford Mondeo 2.0L petrol, which will beat your Mazda 6 to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Mazda 6 tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Mazda 6 2.2L diesel which has 400 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1660kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
