How much does the Kia Sportage cost to run?

The 1.7L diesel is the most economical Kia Sportage to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency. Compared to the competition in the Crossover segment, it’s the car that’s going to have the most negative impact on your monthly budget.

The Kia Sportage 1.7L diesel costs £30.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band C.

It does just over 61 MPG on average, which means it will cost £10.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Citroen C4 Cactus 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty MINI Countryman 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 11, which is lower than the Fiat 500X 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Citroen C3 Aircross 1.2L petrol. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Citroen C3 Aircross has the lowest insurance group.)

Kia Sportage: How big is the boot?

The Kia Sportage has an above average boot space (532 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and 3 large bags. Alternatively you could load up with 4 large bags or 4 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Renault Kadjar hatchback is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 4 large bags with its 647 litres.

Is the Kia Sportage easy to park?

This is one of the widest cars in the class, which makes it feel like a bit of a squeeze in the multi-stories. If that stresses you a bit, try the much narrower Citroen C4 Cactus.

When it comes to parking on the street, the Sportage is one of the hardest. It has a turning circle of 11m, and a length of 4453m, giving you a relatively small 347mm gap to turn the car in and out.

If you don’t have a drive, you should look at the best in class for parallel parking instead, the Hyundai IX20.

Which Kia Sportage has the best performance?

The fastest Kia Sportage from 0-60, is the 1.6L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 265 lbs/ft torque and 174 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 8.8 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Citroen C4 Cactus 1.2L petrol, which will beat your Kia Sportage to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Kia Sportage tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Kia Sportage 2.0L diesel which has 400 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 2200kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
