How much does the Jeep Renegade cost to run?

The 1.6L diesel is the most economical Jeep Renegade to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Jeep Renegade 1.6L diesel costs £30.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band C.

It does just over 64 MPG on average, which means it will cost £9.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Citroen C4 Cactus 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Nissan Qashqai 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 13, which is lower than the Fiat 500X 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Kia Sportage 1.7L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Citroen C3 Aircross has the lowest insurance group.)

Jeep Renegade: How big is the boot?

The Jeep Renegade has a below average boot space (351 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and 2 large bags. Alternatively you could load up with 3 large bags or 3 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Renault Kadjar hatchback is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 4 large bags with its 647 litres.

Is the Jeep Renegade easy to park?

The Jeep Renegade is very middle of the road - it fills three quarters of a space. There are lots of wider cars, but just as many that are narrower and feel easier to park. For example, the Citroen C4 Cactus.

If you don’t park in the street that much, then the Renegade is fine. It will go in to an average street slot, giving you a gap of 564mm to swing in and out. But if you street park a lot you may want to look at the Dacia Sandero Stepway.

Which Jeep Renegade has the best performance?

The fastest Jeep Renegade from 0-60, is the 1.4L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 250 lbs/ft torque and 170 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 8.8 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Citroen C4 Cactus 1.2L petrol, which will beat your Jeep Renegade to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Jeep Renegade tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Jeep Renegade 2.0L diesel which has 350 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1500kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
