How much does the Jeep Cherokee cost to run?

The 2.0L diesel is the most economical Jeep Cherokee to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Jeep Cherokee 2.0L diesel costs £145.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band E.

It does just over 53 MPG on average, which means it will cost £11.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Suzuki Vitara 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Audi Q3 2.0L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 26, which is lower than the Audi Q5 2.0L diesel, but higher than the Ford Kuga 2.0L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Suzuki Vitara has the lowest insurance group.)

Jeep Cherokee: How big is the boot?

The Jeep Cherokee has an above average boot space (692 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and 4 large bags. Alternatively you could load up with 5 large bags or 5 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Land Rover Discovery Sport SUV is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 7 large bags with its 981 litres.

Is the Jeep Cherokee easy to park?

The Jeep Cherokee is very middle of the road - it fills just over three quarters of a space. There are lots of wider cars, but just as many that are narrower and feel easier to park. For example, the Suzuki Jimny.

When it comes to parking on the street, the Cherokee is one of the hardest. It has a turning circle of 11m, and a length of 4613m, giving you a relatively small 187mm gap to turn the car in and out.

If you don’t have a drive, you should look at the best in class for parallel parking instead, the Suzuki Jimny.

Which Jeep Cherokee has the best performance?

The fastest Jeep Cherokee from 0-60, is the 2.2L diesel (if you’re a petrol head, it has 440 lbs/ft torque and 200 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 8.5 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Audi Q5 2.0L diesel, which will beat your Jeep Cherokee to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Jeep Cherokee tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Jeep Cherokee 2.8L diesel which has 460 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 2800kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
