How much does the Honda CR-V cost to run?

The 1.6L diesel is the most economical Honda CR-V to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Honda CR-V 1.6L diesel costs £30.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band C.

It does just over 64 MPG on average, which means it will cost £9.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Suzuki Vitara 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Suzuki Vitara 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 22, which is lower than the Hyundai Tucson 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Suzuki Vitara 1.6L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Suzuki Vitara has the lowest insurance group.)

Honda CR-V: How big is the boot?

The Honda CR-V SUV has a bigger boot than the estate (it can hold 589 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This allows the SUV to take one pushchair and 4 large bags or 5 large bags. While the estate takes just 4 large bags.

Worth knowing, the Land Rover Discovery Sport SUV is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 7 large bags with its 981 litres.

Is the Honda CR-V easy to park?

While not the absolute narrowest car (that is the Suzuki Jimny), this is in the top third for ease of parking in car parks. Given a typical supermarket space, it will fill three quarters of the space.

If you don’t park in the street that much, then the CR-V is fine. It will go in to an average street slot, giving you a gap of 218mm to swing in and out. But if you street park a lot you may want to look at the Suzuki Jimny.

Which Honda CR-V has the best performance?

The fastest Honda CR-V from 0-60, is the 1.6L diesel (if you’re a petrol head, it has 350 lbs/ft torque and 160 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 9.6 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Audi Q5 2.0L diesel, which will beat your Honda CR-V to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Honda CR-V tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Honda CR-V 1.6L diesel which has 350 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 2000kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
