How much does the Ford Mondeo cost to run?

The 1.5L diesel is the most economical Ford Mondeo to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency. Compared to the competition in the Large Family segment, it’s one of the best you can choose.

The Ford Mondeo 1.5L diesel is free to tax, as it sits in tax band A.

It does not far off 79 MPG on average, which means it will cost £8.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

This is at the other end of the spectrum compared to the best in class Dacia Logan 1.5L diesel which achieves almost 81 MPG.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 15, which is lower than the Dacia Logan 1.5L diesel, but higher than the Skoda Superb 1.6L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Dacia Logan has the lowest insurance group.)

Ford Mondeo: How big is the boot?

The Ford Mondeo hatchback has a bigger boot than the estate (it can hold 547 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This allows the hatchback to take one pushchair and 3 large bags or 4 large bags. While the estate takes just 4 large bags.

Worth knowing, the Skoda Superb estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 4 large bags with its 644 litres.

Is the Ford Mondeo easy to park?

Given a typical supermarket space, the Mondeo is hard to park. (If you want the detail it will fill just over three quarters of the bay). This is the widest car in the Large Family class, and you may need to breathe in a bit when getting in and out.

This car is actually 42mm longer than the average street space, so parallel parking will never be easy.

Which Ford Mondeo has the best performance?

The fastest Ford Mondeo from 0-60, is the 2.5L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 320 lbs/ft torque and 220 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 7.3 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Vauxhall Insignia 1.6L petrol, which will beat your Ford Mondeo to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Ford Mondeo tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Ford Mondeo 2.2L diesel which has 450 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 2200kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
