How much does the Fiat Punto cost to run?

The 1.2L petrol is the most economical Fiat Punto to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Fiat Punto 1.2L petrol costs £125.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band D.

It does just over 54 MPG on average, which means it will cost £11.00* in petrol every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Peugeot 208 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Honda Jazz 1.2L petrol.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 6, which is lower than the Ford Fiesta 1.2L petrol, but higher than the Dacia Sandero 1.1L petrol. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Ford KA+ has the lowest insurance group.)

Fiat Punto: How big is the boot?

The Fiat Punto has an above average boot space (275 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and one large bag. Alternatively you could load up with 2 large bags or 2 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Skoda Fabia estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 3 large bags with its 515 litres.

Is the Fiat Punto easy to park?

While not the absolute narrowest car (that is the Hyundai I10), this is in the top third for ease of parking in car parks. Given a typical supermarket space, it will fill just under three quarters of the space.

When it comes to parking on the street, the Punto is one of the hardest. It has a turning circle of 11m, and a length of 4065m, giving you a relatively small 735mm gap to turn the car in and out.

If you don’t have a drive, you should look at the best in class for parallel parking instead, the Smart Forfour.

Which Fiat Punto has the best performance?

The fastest Fiat Punto from 0-60, is the 1.4L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 206 lbs/ft torque and 135 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 8.5 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Alfa Romeo Mito 1.4L petrol, which will beat your Fiat Punto to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Fiat Punto tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Fiat Punto 1.4L petrol which has 206 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1000kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
