How much does the Fiat 500X cost to run?

The 1.2L diesel is the most economical Fiat 500X to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Fiat 500X 1.2L diesel costs £20.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band B.

It does just under 69 MPG on average, which means it will cost £9.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Citroen C4 Cactus 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Suzuki Sx4 S Cross 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 5, which is lower than the Citroen C3 Aircross 1.2L petrol, but higher than the Dacia Sandero Stepway 1.0L petrol. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Citroen C3 Aircross has the lowest insurance group.)

Fiat 500X: How big is the boot?

The Fiat 500X has a below average boot space (264 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and one large bag. Alternatively you could load up with 2 large bags or 2 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Renault Kadjar hatchback is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 4 large bags with its 647 litres.

Is the Fiat 500X easy to park?

The Fiat 500X is very middle of the road - it fills three quarters of a space. There are lots of wider cars, but just as many that are narrower and feel easier to park. For example, the Citroen C4 Cactus.

If you don’t park in the street that much, then the 500X is fine. It will go in to an average street slot, giving you a gap of 541mm to swing in and out. But if you street park a lot you may want to look at the Dacia Sandero Stepway.

Which Fiat 500X has the best performance?

The fastest Fiat 500X from 0-60, is the 1.4L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 250 lbs/ft torque and 170 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 8.6 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the BMW X1 2.0L diesel, which will beat your Fiat 500X to 60 by 0.2 seconds. That doesn’t sound much, but in 0-60 terms it’s actually a big gap.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Fiat 500X tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Fiat 500X 2.0L diesel which has 350 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1200kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
