How much does the Fiat 500L cost to run?

The 1.2L diesel is the most economical Fiat 500L to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Fiat 500L 1.2L diesel costs £20.00 a year to tax, as it sits in tax band B.

It does not far off 71 MPG on average, which means it will cost £9.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Peugeot 308 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Vauxhall Astra 1.2L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 8, which is lower than the Vauxhall Astra 1.2L diesel, but higher than the Ford Focus 1.6L petrol. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Honda Civic has the lowest insurance group.)

Fiat 500L: How big is the boot?

The Fiat 500L has a below average boot space (383 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and 2 large bags. Alternatively you could load up with 3 large bags or 3 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Peugeot 308 estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 5 large bags with its 810 litres.

Is the Fiat 500L easy to park?

The Fiat 500L is very middle of the road - it fills three quarters of a space. There are lots of wider cars, but just as many that are narrower and feel easier to park. For example, the Skoda Rapid.

If you park on the street regularly, this is one of the cars to shortlist. At 4221m long it gives you reasonable 579mm space to move the car in and out of the bay.

Which Fiat 500L has the best performance?

The fastest Fiat 500L from 0-60, is the 1.4L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 215 lbs/ft torque and 120 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 10.2 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the Audi A3 1.2L petrol, which will beat your Fiat 500L to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Fiat 500L tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Fiat 500L 1.6L diesel which has 320 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1200kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
