How much does the Audi A1 cost to run?

The 1.6L diesel is the most economical Audi A1 to run, taking into account insurance, tax and fuel efficiency.

The Audi A1 1.6L diesel is free to tax, as it sits in tax band A.

It does almost 81 MPG on average, which means it will cost £8.00* in diesel every 100 miles driven.

In terms of fuel efficiency, it sits between the Peugeot 208 1.6L diesel and the more thirsty Citroen C3 1.6L diesel.

The lower the insurance group, the cheaper a car should be to insure. This model is rated insurance group 19, which is lower than the Alfa Romeo Mito 1.6L diesel, but higher than the Citroen C3 1.6L diesel. (If insurance cost is important to you then the Ford KA+ has the lowest insurance group.)

Audi A1: How big is the boot?

The Audi A1 has an above average boot space (270 litres of luggage with the seats up).

This would allow one pushchair and one large bag. Alternatively you could load up with 2 large bags or 2 cabin bags instead.

Worth knowing, the Skoda Fabia estate is the best in class, allowing for one pushchair and 3 large bags with its 515 litres.

Is the Audi A1 easy to park?

This is one of the widest cars in the class, which makes it feel like a bit of a squeeze in the multi-stories. If that stresses you a bit, try the much narrower Hyundai I10.

If you don’t park in the street that much, then the A1 is fine. It will go in to an average street slot, giving you a gap of 837mm to swing in and out. But if you street park a lot you may want to look at the Smart Forfour.

Which Audi A1 has the best performance?

The fastest Audi A1 from 0-60, is the 1.4L petrol (if you’re a petrol head, it has 250 lbs/ft torque and 185 bhp). It hits 60 mph in 6.9 seconds.

The closest rival in its class is the MINI Hatchback 2.0L petrol, which will beat your Audi A1 to 60 by 0.1 seconds. That’s a big gap in Formula 1, but not something you would notice in your commute to work.

What size caravan or trailer, can the Audi A1 tow?

If you are towing you want good torque to pull away easily despite the extra weight, and the car needs to be at least 15% heavier than the caravan to keep you stable at speed.

The model that can tow the biggest caravan or heaviest trailer is the Audi A1 2.0L diesel which has 320 lbs/ft torque. It should be able to tow a braked caravan or trailer that weighs up to 1200kg comfortably.

You must check your car handbook – maximum towing weights vary considerably with different engine and gearbox combinations.
