What types of used Lexus RC cars are there?

The RC (2015-present) is Lexus’ answer to the sports saloon, being a high-performance Mercedes beater straight out of Japan. 

It can be had with RWD or AWD, and six trim levels are on offer: RC 300, RC 300 F Sport, RC 300 AWD, RC 300 AWD F Sport, RC 350 and RC 350 F Sport.

What features does the Lexus RC have?

Setting aside its dashing looks and smooth yet aggressive exterior body lines, the RC is a great car to live with, especially if you do a lot of driving.  

This is because the interior is packed full of the latest tech to match its luxurious seats. 

All Lexus RCs get a large 10.3-inch infotainment display that's controlled by a central touchpad. This takes some getting used to, especially when you’re on the move.  

All models also come with an inbuilt sat-nav as standard including smartphone connectivity, but not all models feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – it's worth checking this if it’s a deal-breaker. 

Standard model trims come with great standard features, but upgrade to the top-spec Takumi trim and you’ll get an upgraded 17-speaker Mark Levinson stereo so you can blast your tunes on those long-distance journeys. 

Is the Lexus RC reliable? 

Being part of the Toyota family, any Lexus model should be reliable due to the impressive parts-sharing that takes place. As we know, Toyota is famed for making reliable cars.  

The manufacturer’s warranty from Lexus itself will vary depending on what package it came with from new. As standard, you get a three-year warranty, but this could be extended to a 10-year/100,000-mile plan.

As for safety, the RC is a very safe car, offering safety features such as anti-lock brakes, stability control, a wide range of airbags and an onboard security system that minimises the risk of your pride and joy being stolen. 

How much does the Lexus RC cost to run?

Being a sporty coupé, you can expect to find some rather spicy engine options, which range from a 2.5-litre hybrid to a powerful 472hp 5.0-litre V8 in the sporty RC F model. 

You can expect to get around 45-55mpg with the hybrid model and considerably less at 26mpg with the AMG-rivalling F model, but that’s to be expected. 

Aside from fuel, another large cost to consider when buying a car is insurance. These costs vary massively depending on factors including the driver and where they live.  

Because it’s a sportier car, the RC sits in a higher insurance group than ‘normal cars’ – between groups 31 and 45, with the most expensive being insurance group 50. 

As for maintenance costs, these should be relatively low because all Lexus car parts are Toyota parts, which can only mean one thing; great build quality and reliability.  

Who is the Lexus RC suitable for? 

A used Lexus RC is one of the flashiest ways to show off without buying one of its German rivals. In many ways, it’s the smarter choice because it’s very dependable and great on fuel – especially with the hybrid variant.
