What types of used Jeep Compass cars are there?

The crossover SUV market is very crowded, with endless options from almost all car manufacturers. One that has proven to be very popular since it first launched in 2006, however, is a used Jeep Compass.  

It offers so much in its class and punches way above its weight. It sits between the smaller Renegade and larger Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models.  

The Compass has seen some drastic facelifts over the years, and newer models look as good outside as they do inside. Its sharp styling and clean cabin make for a great family vehicle that can do it all.

What features does the Jeep Compass have?

Considering it’s a baby SUV, it would be wrong not to start at the rear. The Compass has a very large 438-litre boot that's just shy of 100 litres larger than that of the Renegade on which it's based.  

Moving into the cabin, the Compass offers plenty of comfort and space for adults sitting in the second row of seats. The materials used throughout have a solid, quality feel and the vehicle’s chunky steering wheel is nice to hold and complements the Jeep’s rugged nature.  

The infotainment system found in the Compass is much better too, thanks to faster processing chips and sharper graphics. If you don’t fancy using Jeep’s in-built software, however, you can simply connect your smartphone to the display using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Is the Jeep Compass reliable?

Thanks to Jeep’s great integration across its models, the Compass offers strong levels of reliability. In fact, the Compass shares many of its parts with the tried-and-tested Renegade model, which also features great build quality and solid engine options.  

In terms of safety, Compass models come with a forward collision warning system, front and rear parking sensors, a rear-view camera and blind spot detection. Four-wheel drive variants offer better traction both on and off the road.

How much does the Jeep Compass cost to run?

The Jeep Compass is great both on and off the road thanks to its rugged heritage and great engine options.   

Current Compass models are available with three different engine options. The first is the 1.3-litre petrol engine that produces 130hp, and Jeep claims it will return 40mpg with regular driving.   

Moving up the range is the 1.5-litre self-charging hybrid that offers more fuel efficiency and can run on electric-only for short periods of time around town at slow speeds. This is probably the best engine for most people because it's good on fuel and is happy for longer journeys.  

However, if you want some serious power and efficiency then we would recommend looking at the 240hp 1.3-litre plug-in hybrid, which Jeep claims will return up to 150mpg and can drive 30 miles on electric range alone. Not only is it great around town, but this 4Xe variant is the one to have if you plan on doing the odd bit of off-roading.  

Older variants available on the used market may come with a 2.0-litre diesel too, which will be the best when it comes to towing. 

Who is the Jeep Compass suitable for?

A used Jeep Compass is the sort of car that buyers often forget about. Overshadowed by its German competitors, the Compass isn't as popular on UK roads but that doesn't mean it's not worthy. In fact, if you drive a Compass you're a cool person in our books.
