What types of used Ford C-Max cars are there?

Ford’s C-Max has become a bit of a household name in the MPV world thanks to its perfect overall size and good styling. Although Ford no longer sells new versions, it’s a go-to vehicle for both families and working professionals who need extra storage space.   

Inside, the C-Max contains all the technology you’ll need. The entry-level Zetec model features 16-inch alloy wheels, front fog lights, heated door mirrors, air-conditioning, and a DAB radio.   

Move up to the Titanium trim and you will get automatic lights and wipers, climate control and larger 17-inch alloy wheels. The range-topping Titanium X model comes with added luxuries such as Xenon headlights, heated front part-leather seats, and a panoramic sunroof. All C-Max models come as standard with Ford’s latest SYNC 3 infotainment system.  

There’s also a larger Ford Grand C-Max with a pair of extra seats and sliding rear doors in place of conventional doors, making it an incredibly practical compact seven-seater.

What features does the Ford C-Max have?

The main selling point of the Ford C-Max is its vast amount of space and practicality. Despite its relatively small dimensions when compared to some of its rivals, the C-Max isn’t short on space whatsoever. It has 471 litres of boot space that can be increased to 1,851 litres when all the seats are folded flat.   

It also features a low loading bay, allowing for easy loading and unloading of luggage and shopping bags. If you want to be able to transport lots of stuff and still have space for passengers, then the C-Max comes with a clever rear bench seating arrangement that splits the seating in a 40/20/40 format.   

This allows you to fold down the centre rear seat to create a more spacious 2+2 layout while creating more storage space between the rear passengers.  

Most models come with parking sensors, Bluetooth and air-conditioning, but higher-spec models – which are impressively affordable – get luxuries like headlights washers, a panoramic sunroof, and electrically adjustable seats that you’d usually associate with much more expensive models. 

Is the Ford C-Max reliable?

When the Ford C-Max was tested by Euro NCAP, it scored an impressive five stars due to it having plenty of airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchors and other safety equipment. 

A used Ford C-Max also benefits from that reliable Ford manufacturing, and shares many of its parts including the engines with other popular models like the Fiesta, which is Britain’s most traded second-hand car. 

How much does the Ford C-Max cost to run?

Although it’s a people carrier, it’s on the light side, meaning it should prove relatively fuel-efficient. That’s helped by some superb engines, including diesels capable of around 60mpg and punchy 1.0-litre turbocharged petrols. 

Insurance shouldn’t be a problem too, because most Ford C-Max cars for sale sit in similar insurance groups to many Ford Focus models. 

Who is the Ford C-Max suitable for?

Don’t be put off by the fact that a used Ford C-Max is one of the smaller MPVs on the market, because interior space is more than sufficient, and you’ll have no problem fitting a family of five in one of these. 

Its main competitors include the Renault Scenic, Peugeot 5008 and the Volkswagen Touran.
