What types of used SEAT Toledo cars are there?

‘Toledo’ is the Spanish word for sword and this SEAT sure does pack a punch next to its rivals. 

The SEAT Toledo (1991-2018) can be had in SE and Xcellence trims that come well-equipped as standard. 

What features does the SEAT Toledo have?

Production of the SEAT Toledo ended at the beginning of 2019 and therefore there are no new model trims on offer. 

But as of 2018, there were a range of trim levels you could have. 

The entry-level model is the SE, which gets a five-inch monochrome touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, rear parking sensors, air-conditioning as well as a leather steering wheel and gearknob. 

Sitting at the top of the range is the Xcellence trim that gives you larger 17-inch wheels, LED headlights, black Alcantara and leather upholstery, keyless entry, inbuilt sat-nav and front parking sensors.  

You also get an upgraded infotainment system that gets colour and a larger 6.5-inch touchscreen with two extra USB ports. 

Is the SEAT Toledo reliable?

The SEAT Toledo shares almost all of its parts with the Skoda Rapid and SEAT Ibiza, so in terms of reliability it’s rather solid because Volkswagen’s input is very noticeable across SEAT’s models. 

Since production of the Toledo stopped in 2019, you no longer benefit from the manufacturer’s warranty, but this doesn’t mean you’re hung out to dry.

When the Toledo was last tested by Euro NCAP in 2012, it scored a full five-star rating, which is thanks to its safety features such as airbags, rear ISOFIX child seat points, a seatbelt reminder and electronic stability control (ESC). 

How much does the SEAT Toledo cost to run?

Over the six-year span in its most recent generation, the Toledo was available with either a petrol or diesel engine. 

Used SEAT Toledos can be had with a 1.0- or 1.2-litre petrol, or a larger 1.4- or 1.6-litre diesel engine. The smaller petrol engines get around 56mpg, and the diesel ones get around 70mpg.  

For most people, we’d recommend the newer 1.0-litre TSI engine because it’s more efficient and therefore costs less on road tax.  

If you tend to drive longer distances, then either of the diesels are solid options for you. 

The Toledo sits between insurance groups 8 and 20, so it shouldn’t cost too much to insure, and it’s cheap to run compared to some of its rivals. 

Who is the SEAT Toledo suitable for?

A used SEAT Toledo is best for someone who likes the brand’s Ibiza model but is after more interior space.  

Not only is there more room in the back of the Toledo but it also benefits from a large 550-litre boot, which almost rivals the likes of the BMW 5 Series Touring – a big player in the world of estate cars.
